A Day in the Life of Tracey
Meet Tracey a Relationship Manager and Mortgage Advisor that has been with Luminate Financial Group for 6 months.
What time do you wake up?
I wake up to my alarm going off at 5:00am but I don’t get of bed until 5:30am.
What does your usual morning look like?
I go for an hour walk at 6:00am and when I get back, I shower, get ready for the day and then begin my hour drive to the office.
What is something you would like to incorporate into your morning routine? And why?
I hope to incorporate more organisation, for example it would be great to do some dinner preparation in the morning to make things easier when I get home from work.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
When I first get to work I say hello to the team, turn on some music, and make myself a cup of tea. Once I’m settled in, I start on my files and organise what needs to be achieved for the day.
We then have our morning meeting at 10:00am where we set our priorities for the day and workshop difficult deals. After the meeting the rest of my day consists of calling lenders, chasing up approvals, taking calls from prospective clients, sending emails, and loading submissions.
How would you describe your role to someone who is brand new to the mortgage advising world?
I would describe the role as being a financial doctor. Our clients often come to us because they are struggling to land a mortgage through their own efforts.
We look after the client throughout the process by diagnosing any issues that they or the lender may have, then write a submission that will put our clients in the best possible light, then land them an approval and advise as to how they should structure their loan.
How did you end up in this role?
I worked at a main bank for 6 years but wanted to go out on my own. So, in 2006 I resigned and started on my own mortgage advising business. Recently, and before starting with Luminate Financial Group, I started to desire more structure and to work alongside a team again. So, when this job came up it seemed to be a perfect fit.
Where do your best ideas come from?
My best ideas come from my experiences with past clients, reading economic updates, and problem solving and bouncing ideas off of my peers.
How flexible is your work day?
I prefer structure in my day so it doesn’t look particularly flexible. All of my dealings with lenders and with my team needs to be done between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm, and I like to try and get all of this work done between these hours. Sometimes I must see or speak to clients in the evenings or on the weekends but I don’t mind, because meeting with my clients is something I enjoy.
What does inspiration look like for you?
I am inspired by people around me that are organised, driven, adaptable and who feel successful within themselves regardless of their outcomes.
What has been the most transformational business practice you’ve implemented?
Learning to assess and calculate a deal very quickly was a real game changer for me.
What values and vision do you keep in mind when it comes to your work?
Honestly, integrity, organisation, structure and team work.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I very much enjoy solving complex problems and interacting with my wonderful clients.
What about the least enjoyable?
It can be very frustrating when I lose a deal where I have done the utmost to secure funding for the clients.
How do you manage work related stress?
I find that I don’t tend to get stressed these days, but when I do, I manage it by talking to my peers or my family, going for a walk or taking some time to unwind with a book.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
My favourite thing to do with my time is to spend it with my husband, three adult children and their partners, and extended family.
What is your evening routine?
When I get home at 6:00pm, I cook dinner with my family, and then we all sit at the dinner table with no phones and recap our days. Then my husband and I sit on the back deck and have a beer, or we play cards with our kids and their partners. Then I am in bed between 11:00pm and 12:00am.
